Seating arrangements
This is the seating chart and classroom layout for the art room at South Shore Arts Academy Elementary School. This is a versatile layout for a room that allows many different class sizes to have both enough space to do art, and to work collaboratively as a team. The U shape allows the teacher to project instruction to have every student observe the steps while giving the teacher ease of access to observe students. I’ve learned to utilize this layout during my stay. This is the seating chart and classroom layout for one of the art rooms at Morgan Park High School. With three art teachers hired out of four and one elective track closed, the art classrooms were extremely overcrowded. The classroom needed adjustment throughout the day to meet the population needs of the students. This classroom setup taught me how to problem solve, adapt, and work under constantly changing conditions. |
Bulletin Board This is the art bulletin board for the month of November, with a project created, taught, and implemented by myself. All of the Kindergarteners work made it up. The bulletin board really was an inspiration to students of all grade levels, because they wanted their art to be up and showcased on a cleverly designed background that reflected what they had learned. The placement is right outside of the art room in a high traffic part of the school, which is the best place to show artwork. It’s so important to showcase student work in a visible location to create both a sense of motivation and pride. |
Case Study
This is a case study from a situation I’ve witnessed during classroom observation of an elementary student strangled over a crayon by another student. Writing this case study helped me reflect on the stressful situation, while the discussion after taught me more on how to deal with an unexpected and dangerous predicament.

Fall Owl Collage Lesson Plan
This lesson plan showcases modifications of a project toward a specific student who is legally blind. Instead of the low contrast paper, the student was given high contrast paper and colors to work with, that had been tested by myself with vocal confirmation that the student could see. I worked step by step with this student so they could create the owl, and then walked through what the different lines felt like. Social Issue Print Lesson Plan This lesson focused on student driven research on a social issue that affected the student on a personal level. Morgan Park High School has a student body of around 95% African American students in the urban setting of Chicago’s South Side. My job as a teacher was to help them develop and focus on ways to get their ideas across better, along with the art process. This diverse student body gave me the experience to create insightful questions to promote critical thinking in an environment that I have not experienced before. Individualized Development Plan My Individualized Development Plan is to incorporate more writing and reading into my art classroom. Creating this plan has taught me to clearly structure what I want to adapt into my classroom. |

Star Chart and Deterrents in Elementary
Each team/table has six stars to begin with, and if a student from the table does not follow the “South Shore Way” of being “safe, respectful, and responsible”, they get a star taken away. When they are down to three, students could receive timeout. If a team has all six stars, they get a small reward like a sticker or mini eraser at the end of the class period. This classroom structure helped me maintain outbursts and negative behavior when used at the first sign. Learning to use this gave me a steady hand of controlling the class and a firmer understanding of classroom management.
Classroom Management Plan
A classroom management plan created to develop well thought out systems. It states the cell phone policy, deterrents and punishments, classroom rules and procedures, and more. Creating this plan gave me skills to develop well thought out plans and procedures to apply in classrooms.
